Like any Italian town or city of ancient traditions, Cupramontana has its patron saint, S. Eleuterio, the thirteenth Pope after St. Peter. In addition to the religious celebrations, in the afternoon the people gather in the square to watch or participate in the Palio of St. Eleuterio, a unique race organized by the town’s parishes and the council. Particular interest taken in the Barrel Rolling Race a competition that involves teams of young people of the districts rolling hand-over-hand a large wooden wine barrel up a steep hill, passing the town walls and into the town square.
